Narrowboat
Dream Catcher is our 70-foot narrow boat with room to sleep up to twelve people. It was built with a grant from the Community Fund to enable young people to experience life on the waterways, particulary those who would not normally have had this opportunity.
Dream Catcher is based at Willow Wren in Rugby on the Oxford Canal. It is ideally placed for cruising the Warwickshire Ring. A seven-day trip could cover Knowle, Warwick and other beautiful places, from the locks at Hatton to the hustle and bustle of Coventry, and the history of Stratford-upon-Avon. It can also be used for day trips and weekends. We can provide you with ideas for suitable routes for use with young people.
Dream Catcher is equipped with a hearing loop. The colour scheme has been chosen to help those who are visually impaired. The showers and toilets are constructed for use by people with disabilities. The doors fold back in such a way as to allow disabled person to be assisted by a carer if needed. Please note that due to the design of the narrowboat it is not possible to accommodate wheelchairs, and there are steps down into the living quarters.
If you would like to book Dream Catcher please phone the office on 01926 450156 or email becky.nicholls@wayc.org.uk to check that the dates you want are avaliable.
Dream Catcher is avaliable for all young people and youth clubs who are affiliated with WAYC. Other youth groups such as schools can take out associate membership inorder to use the narrowboat.
We work closely with the National Community Boat Association (NCBA) and ensure that all our helmsmen are appropriately qualified. We are also hoping to introduce formal qualifications for the young people to gain new water based skills on their residential trip. All trips on the narrowboat have a qualified volunteer helmsman. We offer CCBM (Community Boat Managament) courses which run upon request.
The narrow boat is run to enable young people to learn in a fun environment.
