Detached Youth Work

The aim of detached youth work is to meet young people on the streets where they gather. The work is done on their terms. Specialist youth workers go into the community to assess the needs of young people who cannot or choose not to access youth provision.

The youth workers aim to build positive relationships with the young people through providing activities, advice, guidance and information.

Quinton Detached Youth Project

Quinton is a rurally isolated village with little provision for young people. Youth workers were approached to work with the young people to identify their needs. Through consultation, the young people requested a youth club. The young people were supported to find funding for activities while the ongoing process of setting up a youth club took place. This has been used to set up a street forum for young people to discuss local issues with other agencies. It is hoped that a youth club will open in March.

Shipston Detached Youth Project

Shipston Project was set up to tackle the issue of drugs in the community. Workers funded by DASH, provide young people with information, advice and guidance on a weekly basis, and are available to chat with the young people and sign post to relevant agencies.

Young people of Shipston expressing an interest in playing pool got the chance in November when they arranged a game against St Patrick's Irish Club, Leamington Spa.  The game was played at St Patrick's with Shipston holding the return leg in early December. The 'Shipston Massive' designed the tee-shirts and local businessman Mike Yallop, of JTL Embroidery, kindly produced the Tee-shirts free of charge as he wanted to support the group in all their efforts. Onward and Upward the Shipston Massive!!!!
