Training and Support for Young People

Courses

We offer a wide range of courses which can be tailored to meet the individual needs of your young people. All of them meet at least one of the Every Child Matters outcomes of Staying Safe, Enjoying and Achieving, Economic Well-Being, Healthy Living, and Participation. The courses are flexible in terms of time and content and offer accreditation options.

First Gear Road User Education Course

This is a nationally recognised and OCN accredited (level 1) programme for young people aged 14 plus years. The project aims to challenge young people’s attitudes towards driving, owning and maintaining a vehicle. This course can take place over ten sessions, or more flexibly to meet your requirements.

Youth Achievement Awards

Youth Achievement Awards are a way in which young people can gain a nationally recognised qualification for the activities and interests they are already actively engaged in. They can take part at four levels - Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

Young people choose their own challenges, set their own targets, and are assessed by their peers - although the completed award goes before a regional moderation board to ensure standards nationally. The other important element is that young people have to build a portfolio of evidence to support their challenges - so developing recording and evaluation skills at the same time.

Volunteering

WAYC’s v project offers a range of volunteering opportunities from one off tasters to more regular opportunities for young people aged 16- 25. So whatever you’re into- give it a go, have fun, and get recognition for it! Support can also be offered to organisations to help recruit and support young volunteers.

International Work

WAYC prides itself on its international work, and has run at least one exchange a year over the past decade. Past exchanges have included visits to Denmark, Sweden, Russia, and Belarus. This year we are taking a group of young people to Tartazan (Russia) in July.

Arts

WAYC is a member of the Warwickshire Youth Arts Network (WYAN). WYAN works strategically to encourage young people to have access to the arts, and through the use of arts to encourage their personal development and self esteem. WAYC also offers music projects in our studio and through laptops, video and graphic design packages.

Summer Scheme

WAYC runs an annual programme of activities for young people over the summer. Activities vary each year, but examples are art, team building, kayaking, archery, sport, orienteering and trips to local attractions.

Detached Work and Club based Youth Workers

We have experience of detached youth work, and have supported projects in Shipston, Ilmington, Quinton and Bedworth Heath. We can also supply sessional youth workers to support volunteers in running a youth group.

Westbury Centre and Jubilee House

We have training and meeting rooms available for hire in Jubilee House. Westbury Centre offers a meeting room with servery, main hall with dance floor, music studio and outdoor football pitch.

Dream Catcher narrowboat

Our 12 berth narrowboat provides an excellent residential experience for your youth group. Moored at Rugby, we provide a skipper who will show the young people how to steer the boat and manage the locks. It is a great team building activity!
