WAYC delivers a range of valuable services for vunerable, excluded and disadvantaged young people throughout Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull. This targeted and focused work is under threat of being discontinued and under supported due to the difficulties in securing resources in this period of austerity.
Could you help us to support young people?
Some of our projects which directly benefit marginalised young people include:
First Gear pre-driver road user education project; this projects allows young people to consider what safe driving means and what can affect people's driving decisions along side the more practical elements such as changing a car tyre and having a go at driving. £3, 500 would pay for a First Gear course for 10 young people.
Sharp Minds projects for young people with emotional health and well being difficulties; young people experiencing problems such as self harm, eating disorders, bullying and anxiety/depression can have a positive, safe experience in which they can explore their issues, talk openly about their experiences and importantly, make beneficial friendships. £2,000 would help a group of young people with mental health issues to meet and discuss their issues, and experience fun and friendship.
Dreamteam project; a group of young people work together to plan a weekend away onboard our fully equipped narrowboat Dreamcatcher. Participants work as a team to decide the route, plan menus and agree roles and responsibilities before living aboard and navigating the boat. £6,000 would pay for a group of young people to experience this great project.
Freestyle volunteering project; this gives young people the chance to experience the benefits of community volunteering linked to their interests, skills and needs. Participants can try out tasters of different volunteering activities before realising their chosen community action. £3,500 would support young people to develop valuable skills and help their community.
Beans magazine; young parents have been meeting to plan, research and then write, edit and design their very own magazine for young people. The magazine shows the realities and different aspects of being a young parent from the the point-of-view of the young parent. The young parents involved are very keen to see a third edition produced and printed, can you help? The printing and support costs for this project to take place are £2,000.
Westbury Centre Youth Club- Our oversubscribed youth club runs on a Monday night in Leamington Spa from 6.30-9.30pm. Our funds for this club run out in July 2011, which means we will have to shut the centre. Could you help us with a donation to support this work?
