Can I anyone train as a youth worker?
Can anyone train as a youth worker?
Yes, with certain conditions. You need to be 16 years old or over to do the Level 1 Induction to Youth Work course. These are held on one evening a week for 6 weeks and are workshops which will help you to complete a Level 1 portfolio. To complete the portfolio you will need to be working in a youth project of some kind. We can help with placements. To take part in a placement or work in a youth group you will need satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau clearance.
To do the NVQ 2 in Youth work you will need to have completed your Level 1. Workshops for these are held fortnightly over twelve months. You complete 6 units of work and build a portfolio of evidence based on your youth work practice. You will be assigned an assessor who will hlep you to build your portfolio and will assess your work as you go along.
To do the NVQ 3 in Youth work, you will need to complete your level 2. The pattern of workshops and assessments is similar to the Level 2 but you should be able to demonstrate elements of leadership in your practice.

Level 1 courses are run in each district once a year. Level 2 courses are run at Binley Woods and Level 3 courss are run at WAYC.
